Re: Estimator/Senior Estimator

Dear Mrs. Sanders

I recently graduated from Built Environment with a bachelor's degree and am searching for a full-time job in the sector. This communication refers to the work vacancy advertisement on the Internet for the position of "Estimator/Senior Estimator" on October 27. I am deeply involved in launching my career at Jet Recruitment Ltd. I have been tremendously intrigued by Jet Recruitment Ltd's corporate background, especially its consistency and employee reviews and testimonials, and I would consider it an honour to be part of this organisation.

Given my educational experience at Westminster University in the Built Environment, I think I have a lot to give to your business and its development. It will be an experience in personal and career growth for me in addition to offering me a chance to execute my expertise. I specialise in the property and design industry. I have a certificate from the University of Westminster last year in the area of architecture and built environment. Where productivity is involved, my computer-related expertise can have an additional advantage.

As a part-time estimator at O'Neill & Brennan in London, where I served during the last year of college, I have experience. This profile has helped me obtain additional skills in the building industry and has encouraged me in my profession to specialise in this area of research.

During the last semester of my university job, I took additional courses on property estimation that gave me the courage to function as an estimator/senior estimator. Find my C.V connected, please. I would value your judgement with regards to my submission. I look forward to hearing from you shortly!.

Yours Sincerely

Emine Hataylı

Dear Sir/Madam,

This communication is intended to evaluate if you have a role in your sector as an estimator / Senior Estimator. I have a copy of my CV added for your review. I am currently in my last year at Westminster University studying a degree in Built Environment.

Part of my interest into becoming an Architect was my passion and flair for creativity. However, my further insight into this chosen career was made definitive during the process of my degree, through modules such as Property constructions and evaluation which gave me a sense of direction regarding my career goals.

I have previous experience working in O’Neil and Brennan as a part time Estimator. This involved assessing property damage and reviewing contracts along with communicating with clients. This experience helped me develop excellent personal relation skills, language skills and knowledge on various projects and trends. In addition this placement underlined my determination to work within the construction industry. In addition to my demonstrated capacity to navigate and maintain the highest quality of proffessional standards, I feel that I would be able to make a significant contribution to your company and would like the opportunity to express this knowledge and experience.

If you have any vacancies in your business, I would be thankful if you would email me, or hold my details on file in case of potential openings. I am available for interview at your convenience and would welcome hearing from you.

Yours faithfully,

Planning, implementation and achieving results:

Describe a challenging project, activity or event which you have planned and taken through to a conclusion.  Include your objective, what you did, any changes you made to your plan and state how you measured your success.

I have planned a project for one of my courses. The project was very hard and I have to work accordingly. I studied one month on the project and finished it on time. I have to read several books and articles from journals. I have to also computer work too. But the proposal was delivered on schedule and on time, I have had good results of the project.

Influencing, communication and teamwork:

Describe a difficult problem that you have solved.  State how you decided which were the critical issues, say what you did and what your solution was.  What other approaches could you have taken?

The problem was about a homework and the homework had to be finished in time. I have to work very hard and the problem was hard too. I have found the solution of the problem from the books. Time management in the solution of the problem was very important and I have work extra hours during my work day. I have to sleep 6 hours per day for one week and in this way I have managed to solve the problem.

4.     Identify A Range of Sources of Job Vacancies Appropriate To Your Intended Field Of Work. Total 15%.

There are several Internet sites about the construction jobs and the list of these and their addresses are as follows:

  • Constructionjobsuk.com http://www.constructionjobsuk.com/ is the site for jobs in the construction industry.

  • Constructor.co.uk.  http://www.constructor.co.uk/ is the job board of constructors

  • Workgateways, http://www.workgateways.com/ is a general job site where construction jobs can also be found

  • College board, http://www.collegeboard.com/ is also a job search site,

  • Total jobs, http://www.totaljobs.com/ is a general job search site,

  • Jobs word, http://www.jobsword.co.uk/construction.html is a job site where construction jobs can also be found.

  • Reed, http://www.reed.co.uk/ is a site where construction jobs can also be found,

  • Fish4jobs, http://www.fish4.co.uk/, is another site where construction jobs can be found,

  • Job Search, http://www.jobsearch.co.uk/ is a site where construction jobs can be found,

  • Jobs in construction, http://www.jobsinconstruction.co.uk/, is a construction job site.

  • England Associates, http://www.englandassociates.co.uk/ is a specialist in construction jobs.

Apart from internet, conventional options are also very useful while looking for job vacancies especially for specific geographical areas or profiles.

  • Most daily newspapers have a weekly or bi-weekly “CLASSIFIEDS” supplement which provides a list of the most recent openings.

  • A few professional and education magazines also give information about prospective employers.

  • Cities having a huge student population usually have career fairs and forums which are a good source of exposure regarding the latest trends, technology and developments in a particular field. Many companies conduct their recruitment drive at such fairs.

  • Nowadays, the trend of recruitment consultancies is rapidly mushrooming. These agencies forward their clients’ resumes to prospective employers as well as help the client in securing a job with the desired organization.

  • Many vacancies come into notice through word of mouth- through employees or friends working in a company, or one’s own colleagues.

  • Employer’s directories are also a useful tool when intending to send speculative applications.

5a. You are being interviewed for the Graduate Development programme with DTZ International Property Advisers (advert attached).  Write your answers to the following five questions:

  • Tell me a bit about yourself and what you have been doing in your studies/job/outside activities.

I'm a full-time student at this school Westminster University in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment. I find my course-work very interesting and I read material related lectures, construction, real estate and property advising as extensively as I can. I make sure that I am regular to my classes and follow them up with self-study on a routine basis. I am also a member of Careers and Student Employment Group. For recreation, I enjoy going to the movies, visit museums, monuments and explore the area around me. My enthusiasm in observing every building and monument in terms of architecture helps me with my ideas while working on a project.

  • What is it that attracted you to this position and this company?

The profile has been the one that I have always aspired and aimed for and what could be better than starting a career with a reputable and well-established company like DTZ International? Also, Property advising is a comprehensive and management-oriented job in line with my university education and future career expectations.

  • What skills can you offer us that would be relevant to this position and why do you think they would be relevant?

I have the academic background appropriate for this position and the analytical skills to implement my knowledge into action. My previous job experiences have given me a good exposure and taught me the nuances of the profession through hands- on training which I could put to use in this job. I am also good as a team worker and flexible with my timing and surroundings. My previous jobs have given me an opportunity to meet different kinds of people which have strengthened my communication and relation building skills which are essential to any profession and organization.

  • What do you think is meant by the term Team Player and would you say you are one?  Why?

A Team Player is a person who is open to working with others and fulfilling the project on the basis of a common-action with team-work business philosophy. A Team Worker helps his or her team mates during a business project and shares ideas, encourages co-operation and a healthy relationship between others. I deem myself a team player but I choose to function individually rather than in a squad. My enthusiasm in sports since childhood has instilled the concept and spirit of a team leader as well as a player.

  • What is your greatest weakness?

My biggest flaw will be my struggle to be willing to communicate effectively and appropriately sometimes. Although I am good at basic communication, I need to develop myself more in areas related to market- oriented communication. I focused on it through studying, on clients in my previous job and also going through a lot of literature on the topic.

Writing Down Two Questions That the Interviewer Would Pose.

1. Could you please provide me with the details of salary, incentives and benefits that you are willing to offer?

2.i would like to know more about the working environment, office culture and work timings.

Task 6: Career Goals

I am currently studying Built Environment at the University of Westminster. One of the world's biggest and highly lucrative marketsis the construction industry. I was attracted to this profession considering the innumerable options it has to offer in terms of career goals which makes it an ideal field of work. There are many creative, exciting and lucrative opportunities in this area of business. Currently, I have yet to decide as to what area of concentration in this field of work I would eventually go on to pursue. Getting to the close of my degree now I would most likely follow up my qualifications and some of these options would include Appraiser, Estimator, Project Coordinator, Project Manager, Property Evaluator and many more.

Since many parts of the construction and business industry are very fast paced, it is vital for me to have some computer knowledge, in order to keep up with the pace of the industry, which I have gained significantly through the courses in computer applications that I have taken.

Education is very important for future success. My plans are also to go into further study for a masters after my degree however this depends on many circumstances which I am still taking into consideration. I feel that the career I am thinking of (the construction industry) is a perfect choice for me.  My preferred industry, in many ways, reflects my personality. I feel that the industry is creative, analytical and application based. I feel that the skills required to excel in this industry are in sync with my personal attributes.

As of now, I would like to further my work experience in a reputable, strong and institutionalized company with professional standards and detailed job descriptions and should have the basic foundation to operate in a globalize business environment. My job should also give me time to keep in touch with the academics which is essential if I have to apply for post-graduation. In fact, I am also considering doing an internship with a reputable firm for one year to get a better insight on the professional, educational as well as developmental aspects which would make it easier for me to start a company of my own at a later stage.

7. Identify your Preferred Personal Decision-Making Style with Rationale Behind your Choice. Identify the Most Appropriate Strategy for A Decision you are Currently Faced With. (700 Works Maximum).

I call my decision-making style “futuristic” because I tend to take decisions not only based on the pros and cons of the issue but also on what benefit my current decision will be to myself in the future. For example, if offered two jobs- one with a larger salary but a lower reputability and the other vice versa, I would choose to work with a reputed company even for peanuts because that would add credibility to my resume and increase prospects to work with a better company with much higher salary. Through this checklist I came to a decision that the topic on the Hotel Industry was going to give me more of a chance for the dissertation to be carried out accordingly. Reason being is that primary research was feasible for the hotel topic however, the airline topic, this was not going to carried out accordingly due to the primary research. I prefer not to take decisions impulsively or on basis of the instant benefit or incentives that might be offered. Rather, I tend to take the tough path so that there is lesser struggle in later stages of career and life in general.

I am currently faced with a decision regarding to take private lessons in German as a foreign language. It is an expensive course to take and very time demanding but I realize that an additional language increases the communication background and the analytical ability of a person. Language learning is also important for the career progression of a person. Each foreign language learned adds something to the prospective salary and makes more job opportunities available for the person.

This analysis has helped me identify my strengths and weaknesses due to which I have been able to utilize my strong points to their maximum as well as devise strategies to counteract my weaknesses. My interpersonal skills were lesser in standard than desire but I have been working towards it by participating in more group activities which involve team work.

  • I have gained knowledge and skills in analytical and creative problem solving. I used to find it difficult to solve problems analytically but I improved myself in the area by reading extensively on the subject and working on sample problems with paper and pen and several other exercises.

  • I have also developed my career goals further by realizing the importance of skill development for the future of my career. I've read and studied a number of stuff about career goal development. I have practiced writing professional CVs and cover letters from several books on the topic and developed my own CVs and cover letters using the knowledge I have gained.

  • Time management is one of the most important aspects of professional and student life and I have stressed on time management skills. I was faced with many initial hiccups so I have begun to work with a calendar and agenda and devised these to manage my time effectively.

  • I have also developed my creativity further through reading and introspection. Creative thinking and acting are difficult, so I have worked on these by practicing on problems and practical issues

  • I've made an attempt to strengthen my inter-personal skills and have succeeded in doing so by participating in team activities and group representation.

  • Another area of importance is developing decision making abilities. I developed a method of decision making by working on different styles of decision making and then assessing which one fits me better.

12.     A Statement Reflecting as to How Theory from Other University of Westminster Modules Applies to the Workplace. This Should Include A Summary of Learning Achieved as A Result of the Placement. Total 10%.

The administration of projects essentially requires the usage of expertise, equipment and other tools for project creation and execution. A project manager oversees the usage of the equipment and unites the manpower concerned as well. The correct utilisation of all services allocated for a project falls under the domain of project management. Since, different kinds of people from all levels are involves in a project, using the human resources in an efficient way is one of the most important tasks in the work place. The work place should provide for the development of manual skills in some cases, extra education is helpful regarding matters which are crucial for the work. Team working is important in project management because there are several tasks which cannot be accomplished by a single individual. Planning and monitoring time management is also one of the crucial steps in project management at every stage of progression and I have gained this skill in my work placement.

In project management assignments, strong communication skills are often important since they hold the workers united in a work place. I have also discovered the meaning of strong listening skills and have further improved them in the workplace. Project preparation is often an essential project management aspect, so I have also learned how to schedule my job and how to conform with the managers' plans in the workplace.

Land Management and Law is another module that is important in terms of job placement and my potential career. I learned how to run real estate companies and position them in the work atmosphere via this module. Industry details and the challenges faced provided me prior analytical experience and qualified me for the position of work.

In fact, all the courses in my education showed me how to learn about any specific topic. analytically and the importance of making research on the issue at hand. Property management, real estate, urban policy and architectural works have all been useful for me and have formed a basic background and prepared me for the work place and in this sense with the theoretical background I now began to feel myself ready for a work place.

13.     A Reflection of An Interview or Discussion Undertaken with the Employer at the End of the Work Placement. (This Discussion Should Aim to Identify Your Strengths and Weaknesses In Relation to the Workplace).

(advert attached). Write your answers to the following five questions:

  • Tell me a bit about yourself and what you have been doing in your studies/job/outside activities.

I am a full-time student in the Westminster University in the Department of Architecture and Built Environment.

I consider myself a Team Player because I prefer working in a group rather than all by myself. My enthusiasm in sports since childhood has instilled the concept and spirit of a team leader as well as a player.

  • What is your greatest weakness?

My greatest weakness would be my inability to communicate effectively and appropriately sometimes. Although I am good at basic communication, I need to develop myself more in areas related to market- oriented communication. I focused on it through studying, on clients in my previous job and also going through a lot of literature on the topic.
The interview took place at the DTZ International Property Advisers main office. To begin with, the interviewer asked me basic questions about myself and my skills which was an opportunity for me to express my sincerity and dedication towards my academics and my focus regarding my professional goals. I added my enthusiasm and passion for ancient monuments as an evidence of my aptitude for this job.

The interviewer asked me the reason as why I wanted to join the company and I cited the company’s reputation and the job profile as reasons.

The interviewer asked many questions which inspired me think about me more introspectively. He mainly focused on analyzing my strengths and weaknesses. He said that my skills, background and work experience are definite plus points and would be of great benefit to the company but he also asked me to work a bit more on communication skills at a professional level as I may have to deal directly with the clients at times and poor communication could at times mean loss of business.
